Obituary of William R. Zane, Sr.
William R. Zane Sr., age 70, a 37 year resident of Glen Mills, PA passed away peacefully at his home on April 4, 2020 after a 7 year battle with cancer. Born to the late William & Barbara Zane, Bill was raised in Drexel Hill. He graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1968 and from Temple University in 1973 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Bill spent his career with the Boeing Company as a Manager in the product support department for 40 years, retiring in 2017. In his early twenties, he made Jesus his Lord and Savior, a relationship that forever changed his life. A few years later, through his involvement with the Aldan Union Church College and Career group, he met his wife, Robin Bateman, with whom he would spend 40 years of marriage and raise four children, Becky, Bill Jr., Bob and Brittany. Bill was an incredibly devoted husband and father and provided for his family in every way possible. Besides loving to ski, Bill enjoyed spending time outdoors working in his garden and planting flowers, which were always admired by his neighbors. He also enjoyed tinkering with all the cars in the family and fixing everything that broke. Family time was of utmost importance to him and it delighted him to be able to share his passions with his family with yearly trips to Vermont to ski, and to the Outer Banks in the summer. Eventually, those family traditions grew as the family grew by marriage with Bryan (Becky), Lisa (Billy), and Lindsey (Bob), and recent family vacations have turned into happy chaos, including 8 grandchildren ages 2-8. His grandchildren brought him so much joy, especially in his final months at home. Bill was a long-time member of Goshen Baptist Church and previously Bethel Baptist Church in Wilmington, DE, but is now in the arms of his Savior and Redeemer. He is survived by his wife, Robin Bateman Zane, 4 children, Becky (Bryan) Tingle, William (Lisa) Zane Jr., Robert (Lindsey) Zane & Brittany Zane, 8 grandchildren, Tristan, Tessa, Tatum & Teagan Tingle and Boden, Jack, Mila & Fletcher Zane, 4 siblings, Patricia (Robert) McNeill, Kathryn (Jeffrey) Covington, Richard (Susan) Zane & Ronald (Gail) Zane, and sisters & brothers in law, Nanci (Roger) Haber, LouAnn (Jim) Leary, William (Deb) Bateman & Joan (William) Custer as well as numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Due to Covid 19, Memorial Services will be held at a later date to be announced at Goshen Baptist Church.
