Edna was a gracious hostess. Ed and I along with Richard stayed at their home to go boating, again in their Greensburg home with their beautiful Frank Lloyd Wright kitchen, when she took care of baby Bryan while we went to my Grandmother's funeral; and their home in Fayetteville for the family gathering after Don Rennie's funeral, and when she helped prepare that very enjoyable family gathering at Kevin's.
Ed and I send our heartfelt condolences to her family. We are sure you will miss her.
With love, Helene and Edmund

This tribute to Edna is a treasured memory from Edmund, her 8-year-younger brother (aka Uncle Bud). Childhood was chaotic and many memories are lost, but one event was very meaningful for my Dad, because it guided his life. When Edmund was just entering college at Carnegie Tech, Edna gave him a gift -- a slide rule ...an object of singular importance to him as he studied engineering and pursued his career in the emerging semiconductor industry... a gift that he owns and treasures to this day. If you are listening, Edna, know that Bud will be forever grateful for this special gift from his big sister -- along with being functional, it is symbolic of your thoughtfulness.

R.I.P. Aunt Edna, my Mom’s oldest sibling. In addition to our childhood visits in the 1960’s & 70’s with my Aunt, Uncle and 3 rambunctious Slater cousins(Rick, Kevin, Todd), I enjoyed
spending time in Columbus, OH for several days in 1983. Then a few more times after that in PA & Maine(at the 2007 family reunion). Always great hosts & loving parents. They taught their kids to think for themselves & it paid off in adulthood.

I learned of your death with great sadness because I have known you for years. The first time you welcomed me into your big house was in 2000. Your hospitality and kindness amazed me. We spent 3 wonderful days with you. I liked you immediately because I felt in you, character, kindness and openness. I used to come to see you every time I came to Philadelphia. And each time, you welcomed me and your late husband with open arms. Thank you for all the good times that I lived with you. I would have liked to continue to come to see you but God wanted otherwise. I will never forget you and you will stay in my heart. Rest in peace . You will always remain in our memories. You are now in the hands of God and surely in Paradise.
Farewell wonderful woman.

My earliest memory of Aunt Edna was while the Slaters visited us in Ft. Lauderdale in the late ‘60s. Ever since then, I’ve felt very close to her and cherished the times I saw her again over the next 50-odd years. I know Aunt Edna had a difficult recovery from a car accident early in her retirement about 30 years ago. But she always was a wonderful aunt who hosted me on visits to Pa., showing me around. The biggest thing was her help putting together the 2007 family reunion in Maine! We have so many pictures and some movie clips from over the decades, to help remind us of what an amazing mom, wife, sister and aunt Edna Slater was.

Here I am without you my friend, my mother-in-law, my mother, my pearl. You were my comfort when I was worried, when I needed advice. You were the nucleus of our family.
Thank you for your greatness, your goodness, your generosity, your respect and your unconditional love. You were devoted to my happiness and to the happiness of your children and grandchildren. Watch over us as you have always done well, as from the day that I saw you for the first time in the airport of Columbus. Mom you are not dead, your heart is still beating in my heart, our hearts. Rest in peace mom, I loved you, I love you and I will love you.

Edna Slater was our loving mother and full of life. My words would fail here. In our younger years she literally whipped RaggaMuffin, SlopMollick and Hudawish into shape. She and Dad were our early coaches in golf, basketball, football swimming and many other activities Mom was a great swimmer. I really learned the depths of her great character later in life. She and Dad loved and accepted my wife, Elyse Fatima, as the daughter they never had. I’ll never forget Dad or Mom and especially for this experience. It is priceless.
