Obituary of Richard A. Grubbs

Richard A. Grubbs, age 51, of Wilmington, DE passed away on June 9, 2021 at Seasons Hospice in Wilmington, DE. Richard grew up in Long County, Georgia and later settled in the Philadelphia area. He began his career as a deck-hand working on boats on the Mississippi River and then in Savannah, GA. He obtained his captain's license at a young age and worked as a tugboat captain in several ports along the East Coast, eventually gaining his Docking Pilot's license as well. He was a life-long sports fan, playing every sport during his High School years and became an avid golfer. He loved the Philadelphia Eagles, animals and above all, his family and friends. Richard was kind-hearted, sometimes the jokester, and often generous to a fault. Richard was born in Norfolk, VA and was the son of the late Donald and Lois Grubbs. He is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Karen Grubbs, step daughter, Jessica Adamek, step-mother, Paula Grubbs, siblings; Janet D'Angelo, Linda (Al) Delpercio, Elisa (Jeff) Pilato, Dan (Debbie) Essel, BIll Essel, John (Diane) Essel, and George (Debbie) Essel.
