Obituary of George Henry Geer
George Henry Geer, age 87 of Glen Mills, PA passed away on June 22, 2021 at Cape May Regional Hospital. Born to Howard and Vida Butterfield Geer in Port Chester, NY, he was raised in Rye, NY. He lived in Havertown, PA for 45 years. George was a Market Research Manager for Tastykake Baking Co. He was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church, then Hope United Methodist Church both in Havertown, PA. George was a veteran who served his country in the Army, 1955-57. He has an undergraduate degree from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH, and earned his Masters Degree in Retailing from the University of Pittsburgh. George loved music and has been singing his entire life, starting as a young child in his Episcopal Church Boys Choir. He was a member of the Choir at Trinity and Hope United Methodist Churches, as well as the Maris Grove Choir and Men’s Chorus. George belonged to the Optimist Club of Havertown, and he was also a member of the Masons. George loved gardening, making floral arrangements, was an avid reader, and never said no to a dish of ice cream. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, especially his annual vacation for over 50 years with extended family in Stone Harbor, NJ. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his brother, Howard Geer, and his half-sister, Maibelle Galt. George is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Anne Dean Geer, his children, Douglas (Kathleen) Geer, Laura (Erol) Gurcan, and Steven (Michelle) Geer, brother, Donald (Rose Mary) Geer, sister-in law, Paulette Geer, as well as his grandchildren, Christian, Kristine, Danielle, Andrew, Travis, Carter, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 2 from 10-11AM at Maris Grove Chapel, Glen Mills, PA, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00AM. Interment will be private at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, Broomall, PA. In lieu of flowers donations in George’s memory may be made to either the Arthritis Foundation or the Maris Grove Scholar’s Fund, which provides scholarships to support the high school students employed at Maris Grove who serve the Maris Grove community.
