Obituary of Eleni Hatzopoulos

Eleni "Helen" Hatzopoulos, age 92 of Broomall, PA passed away at home on June 28, 2021. Eleni was born and raised in Dafni Voiou, Kozanis Greece, where she lived with her two children until 1962, when her husband, Athanasios Hatzopoulos, brought them all to America. Their main purpose of relocating was to give their children a better life. Together, Eleni and Athanasios worked long hours in their restaurant and were able to give their children the life they never had. Eleni never went to school. Her parents did not believe in women getting an education, but Eleni taught herself a new language and became an American citizen. She was proud that both of her children finished high school and opened their own businesses. She was previously from Upper Darby and had resided in Broomall, PA since 2001. She was devoted to her faith and a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby. In addition to her parents, Demetrios and Sana Taras Kotopoulos, Eleni is preceded in death by her husband, Athanasios "Arthur" Hatzopoulos who passed in 1987. She is survived by her children, Vasilis "Bill" Hotzopoulos and Anthoula "Ann" Hatzopoulou, brother, Eythimios "Tim" Kotopoulos and his wife Stella, grandchildren; Evanthia Filiou and husband Michael Williamson, Eleni Filiou Krystopa and husband Anthony "Chris" Krystopa, Panagitios "Peter" Filios, and Athanasios "Saki" Filios and wife Amber Filios, as well as eight great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 9th from 10-11AM at St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church, 35 N. Malin Rd, Broomall, PA 19008, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11AM.
