Obituary of Betty N. Gailey

Betty Nell Gailey Betty, 91, was resident with her husband, Joe, in the Maris Grove Retirement Community at Glen Mills (PA) where she died peacefully in the presence of family on the morning of October 6, 2021. Betty met Joe as classmates at York (PA) High School. Their married life began with their 'great adventure' to Madison (WI) for Joe's graduate education and where their daughter, Ruth (Brunner), was born. Betty and Joe came to Wilmington (DE) in 1956, when Joe began his lifetime (37 yr) career at the Hercules (Inc.) Research Center, where Betty was later employed as manager of the Credit Union office. This, along with her efforts in church, charity, and part-time teaching. Meanwhile, Betty also gave birth to and lovingly nurtured a son, Ben, and a second daughter, Jane. The kids grew up in their beautiful home in the Brookmeade neighborhood, surrounded by Betty's ever changing flower gardens. Inside the house, the output of her studio, paintings, often flower-strewn, graced walls throughout. We will honor Betty's wishes for the simplest possible memorial, and commit her ashes to the earth with a family gathering in the memorial garden of Christ Church Christiana Hundred (DE) on a future, flowery day.
