Obituary of Steven G. Swyka Sr

Steven G. Swyka Sr., age 63 of Glen Mills, PA passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Christiana Care Hospital in Delaware. He was born on July 25, 1958, in Middletown, Delaware, the son of Nicholas L. and Mildred Daubert Swyka, Sr.

Steve was known for his ability to literally repair anything. He owned and operated two auto repair businesses in Delaware for over 40 years. Steve Swyka Auto Specialist, located on Foulk Road in Wilmington, Delaware, has thrived under his expertise for the last 25 years. Steve enjoyed helping people and was exceedingly generous to his customers, his family, and his friends. With his knowledge, he enjoyed honestly advising people about their vehicle needs. Anyone driving past his shop and looking at the types of cars he worked on witnessed the tribute to his uncanny abilities.

Steve also had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed boating, playing the bass guitar and piloting small planes. Steve loved spending time with his family and friends; especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Steven. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Marie Hurley Swyka, his sons, Anthony N. Swyka and wife, Kathryn, Sean Birney, and wife Christina; daughters Jennifer Kurian and husband Charles, Christine Olmsted, and Lauren Birney. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren who he deeply cared for and loved with all his heart, Reese, Samantha, Sophia, and Charles Kurian, Jr., Ava, Grace, Ella, and Alexander Birney, Henry Cook, Brooke Olmsted, Gabrielle, Isabella, and Theodore Swyka, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday October 22, 2021, from 10:00AM-11:00AM at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 800 W. Lea Blvd., Wilmington DE, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00AM. Interment will be follow at Saint Rose of Lima Cemetery, in Chesapeake City, MD. In Steve's memory, donations may be made to St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 231 Basil Avenue, P.O.
