Obituary of Wilfred James Smith, Sr.

Wilfred James Smith, Sr., age 88 of Boothwyn, PA passed away on October 28, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Wilfred was born to the late William D. and Anna (McMaster) Smith. He was married to his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 69 years, Shirley Ann (Moore). Wilfred was a lifelong resident of Boothwyn, PA. Wilfred graduated from Chichester High School, worked at Sun Oil, then owned and operated E&J Appliance for over 60 years. Joining as a 14 year old, he was a lifetime member of Reliance Hook and Ladder Co., serving in many positions including President, Treasurer, Chief and Trustee. In 1980 when Reliance relocated, Wilfred was instrumental in the building of the new firehouse and banquet hall. He also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Wilfred was devoted to his family and especially loved hosting family gatherings at his home. He also enjoyed boating, fishing and crabbing with his family. After semi-retirement, he and Shirley enjoyed traveling in their motor home often visiting with family and friends. Wilfred was always there to give family and friends a hand when needed and he will be missed by all. Wilfred is preceded in death by his brother, William J. Smith. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his 3 children; Robin (Norman) McGhee, Jimmy (Joanmarie) Smith, Cheryl Ann (Bobby) Smith, 5 grandchildren; Brandy, Jocelyn (Matthew), Brandon (Brittany), Jenna, Jessica, 3 great grandchildren, Audrey, James, Abigail, and extended family.
