Obituary of John J. Fernandes

John J. Fernandes, age 84, of Downingtown, PA passed away on July 13, 2022 at Chester County Hospital. Born to Richard and Jeanette Damata Fernandes in West Chester, PA, John has resided most of his life in the West Chester area. He graduated from St. Agnes School, Class of 1956 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army. John worked as a mechanic for Wyeth Labs for over 37 years before retiring. He continued to work with his hands by fixing his great granchildren's toys and was affectionetly known as the "Pop Pop Fix It Shop." He enjoyed stock car racing, drag racing, Nascar, and bowling, at one time bowling a 264. One of his favorite places was the family cabin in Maine. He was also known for his lead foot and his love of the Yankees. Most of all, John loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Theresa Hershey, and first wife, Carol Ann Fernandes. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Fernandes, children; John L. (Christine) Fernandes, Linda (Earl Schandelmeier) Fernandes, and Andrew (Alicia) Fernandes, step children; Tina (Herb) Taggart, Tim (Amy) Leon Guerrero, and Edward "Ted" (Ginny Lockwood) Leon Guerrero, siblings; Richard (Irene) Fernandes Jr. and Marie Hines, 10 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 19, from 5-7PM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley, PA. A funeral liturgy will be held on Wednesday, July 20, at 10:30AM at Pagano Funeral Home. Interment to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester, PA.
