Mark is one of my all-time favorite people, and definitely my favorite scuba buddy. I'll never forget when we went on a trip to some remote tropical location, and one of his checked bags was just a duffel full of books. I've never known anyone who read more. Lots of memories - I think I was working at the shop for about a month when he asked me if I was looking for a job. I said "No, I just started working here..." He just said "Oh", and walked away. When I was in grad school I would go in to the store early because it was a quiet place to study. Sometimes I'd ask Mark to read my papers before I submitted, and he always had great commentary.... he helped me provide real-world insight to academics. I'm not sure I'd have graduated without him. He also gave me the confidence to take on home improvement projects - "BJ, you can figure it out." Many projects later, many crooked tiles... if Nicole criticizes I tell her to blame Mark for making me believe in myself.

Oh Nancy, this is powerful news - I am so sorry for your family's loss, for your loss. Mark's energy is the main memory I have - boundless! I deeply appreciate the opportunities and life lessons you and Mark afforded Steve and myself. May time bring some comfort, and know there is a deep hug enclosed with this message. Cheers to Mark!

Mark was one of the most genuinely kind and patient men that I have every known. I know he had a tremendous influence on the young people who worked for him, as evidenced by the many years of loyalty in their work at Wicks. There was a time I would not have survived financially without part-time work at Wicks and his willingness to hire me. It is so sad that he was taken so soon after retiring from the ski shop. My heart goes out to Nancy, his children, and the rest of the family.

Mark and Nancy have both had a big impact on me both personally and professionally. Mark had an positive and infectious personality but yet he also knew how to command the team and have respect. He also had quite a funny and quirky sense of humor. To this day I think of Mark often as I now manage my employees. I like to think that much of my style comes from Mark and Nancy. I think of him every time I hand out small cash bonuses to boost moral as he did for me. I’m honored to have known him and grateful for all that he taught me in retail. Sending love to his family.

Mark was an incredible person and had an extremely positive impact on my life. He was an amazing mentor who I continue to look up to. The things he taught me have been invaluable and I will carry that knowledge with me throughout my life. I've always felt blessed to have had the opportunity to work with him during the summer while attending school and I still find myself telling stories about all of the amazing work we did together. It's because of him that I'm never hesitant to take on a large or challenging project as he gave me the confidence to do so. He was a very kind and generous person and a wealth of knowledge, he will be missed by myself and so many others.
I wish the best to the entire family during this difficult time.
