Obituary of Daniel Patrick Dorrian Jr.
Daniel P. Dorrian Jr., age 85, of Springfield, PA, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2023. He was born to Irish immigrant parents, Daniel and Elizabeth (Duffy) Dorrian in Southwest Philadelphia, PA. Daniel graduated from West Catholic High School, Class of 1956, and went on to become the first in his family to attend and graduate college. He graduated from Drexel University with a bachelor’s in Business Administration. He excelled in college athletics, lettering in basketball and baseball. His freshman year, Dan captained the undefeated Drexel freshman basketball team and his senior year, was named captain of the baseball team. He then served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. Devoted to his faith, Dan was an active member of St. Kevin Parish in Springfield, PA.
Dan had a successful career in the business world beginning at First Pennsylvania Bank. He served as a Chairman of Mid-Atlantic Securities Transfer Association, Member of the Board of Directors and Chief Financial Officer of Balis & Company, Inc., Corporate Secretary and Chief Administrative Officer with Excess Reinsurance Company, and Principal Member of the Board of Directors and Corporate Secretary of Guy Carpenter & Company, Inc., a subsidiary of Marsh McLennan, where he spent over 20 years and retired in 2006.
With all his accomplishments, his most cherished was his family. Dan was the definition of a family man. He and his loving wife of 50 years, Patricia (Conway) Dorrian, have five children, Daniel Dorrian, Kevin (Yesim) Dorrian, Kelly (Thomas) Brientnall, Colleen (Joseph) Giunta, and Meghan Dorrian. He could always be found attending his children's athletic events. His favorite hobby was practicing any and all sports with them - pitching batting practice, playing soccer goalie, running the track, and shooting hoops. While he treated all as his favorite, he held the most special bond with his youngest daughter, Meghan. They could be found enjoying Springfield Cougar girls basketball and lacrosse games each season.
When Dan became a grandfather in 2009, he found his youthfulness again in his activities and playfulness with his eight grandchildren: Thomas, Gavin, Braydon, Reese, Michael, Teagan, Nora and Samantha. They could all make Pop Pop do anything and engage in mischief and excitement. Pop Pop was quick to engage with this grandchildren in practicing the sports that he loved as a child and young man.
Dan was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and Phillies baseball. He enjoyed going to Ocean City, NJ in the summer spending time on the beach with his family. While enjoying the beach, he always knew where the closest baseball field was for batting practice and the 6th and 52nd Street courts for shooting hoops.
