Shirley Zabitka McCreary posted a condolence

Growing up, Joey (my cousin on the Zabitka side), started bringing his girlfriend, Nadia, to all the family celebrations and we looked forward to seeing them. Joey loved Elvis Presley and one time when our family was visiting his parents, my Aunt Olga and Uncle Joe, Joey got out a guitar and started pretending to be Elvis dancing around the living room, while Nadia and the rest of us laughed. My brother, Donald, got his video camera out and started filming him - it was such a big hit that we often got it out to show the rest of the family who missed it. When we moved to Claymont, DE, Joey used to ride his bike all the way from Chester, PA, to our house so he could join us at the community swimming pool in Ashbourne Hills. He stayed for dinner afterwards and my father, Matt, always drove him home. After getting married, Joey and Nadia bought a house near our family in Afton. My parents were having a barbecue on Labor Day and early in the morning, Joey showed up at our door with a dish Nadia had made for the party as they were on their way to the hospital where she gave birth to their first born, Donna! Our families were very close and we were always there for each other. My father said that teenage marriages rarely last, but Joey and Nadia showed them that they could handle it and they did!

I knew Joe from Two J's Hoagie shop, and from Bill's Tavern, I did work briefly at Bill's Tavern. I also used to eat lunch and had a few beers there when I wasn't working. Joe will be miss by many, he was a good man, and great Husband, and I am sure he was a great Pop pop. May you rest in peace, my friend.
