Susan and family: We were saddened to hear of Wilson's passing. Although we had not been able to connect with you for many years, we still remember the wonderful times we spent with you both while I was at UCLA (and my trip to Washington DC and London with Wilson!). We found a few pictures (blurry as pre-digital photography!) that were heart warming and captured Wilson's signature smile. He will always have a place in our hearts. With fond memories, Victor & Terri

Very sorry to hear of Mr Tam passing. He was great man. His stories always amazed me when he would come to wait for his car to be fixed. The Zuppo family sends its prayers. Rest in peace Mr. Tam.

We are very sorry to hear about the passing of our beloved Uncle Wilson. Although we lived miles apart from each other, it was always a treat to be in the company of our family during his annual trips to San Francisco with his family. From frequent meals at Superior restaurant to our games of Rummikub at Grandpa's house, each moment is cherished in our fondest memories with him. We will miss him dearly and our condolences go out to our Aunt Susan, Merritt, and Lauren.
Here are a few pictures our father shared with us.
Best,
Tiffany Tam & Brandon Tam

Hi Susan:
I got your email from Henry Bryndza. Both Wilson and I worked for Henry more than 20 years ago.
I am so sorry to hear we lost Wilson. A brilliant chemist, a wonderful human being and a kind colleague. Gone too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family during this difficult time. We will miss him and may he rest in peace.
Wilson is the unsung hero and brain behind what we called Gen 3 and 4 ADN technology. It is was Wilson who invented the brilliant concept behind the technology where at some point over 30 PhD's including me worked to develop. That technology was sold
by DuPont to Invista in 2004 and the company has implemented it in two plants in Texas, I plant in France and the latest newet plant in China recently. I have no doubt it is generating over 100
millions of profit for the company every year while at the same time contributing to the sustainability of our planet. You should feel proud of what Wilson accomplished as a scientist and as we are all who worked with him over the years.
May God give you the strength to carry on his memory and the wonderful
legacy he left.
My confluence to you and the rest of the family.

(From Henry and Mary Bryndza)
Dear Susan,
Thank you for letting us know of Wilson's passing. He was, as you say, a gifted man, a talented scientist with real impact, and, most of all, a good friend. He will be missed by so many that he touched with his genuine caring and wry sense of humor.
I consider myself lucky to have accumulated so many memories from all the years we've known each other. The memories span work and life, from Wilson's penetrating questions at Gordon Conferences, to holding Merritt in a dresser drawer that became a makeshift crib during a power outage. I remember how he and I enjoyed seeing how far $5 in quarters could take us on our Friday video game outings at the mall on the way home from work, though Wilson's coins always lasted longer than mine. The tennis, croquet, and bocce were always fun, but were all enhanced with Wilson's 'color commentary' on our missed opportunities. And I can still treasure his deadpan comment on how nobody had invited Steve Ittel to "Plaid Day", yet he still came to work dressed in three different plaids! Nobody needs to tell you what a creative and tenacious scientist Wilson was. Invista is now making hundreds of millions of dollars each year simply because Wilson wasn't willing to accept the appalling inefficiency of the Generation II catalysts being used in the mid-90s. That he nurtured friendships at the same time he mentored us is testimony to Wilson's exceptional patience, generosity, and listening skills. He always seemed to know what each of us needed to surmount the inevitable challenges and setbacks encountered in work and in life, and he always took the time to share his thoughts and insights. I could ramble on for hours but I'll just say how much I miss our Friday lunches 'at the Pit' where Wilson would always look at the menu and try something new when most of us would just order 'the usual'. He will be missed, and his memory will be treasured.
I've never been able to decide if it's harder to lose someone suddenly, without warning, or to suffer with them as they battle illness and decline. I guess neither is easy, but I'm glad Wilson found his own way to say goodbye, and that he was surrounded by all those he loved.
But please know that Mary and I sincerely hope that, in the richness of time, the pain that comes from the immediacy of your loss will be replaced with joy from the lifetime of happy memories you and your girls accumulated with Wilson over a lifetime. Please do give our best to Merritt, Lauren, and her family. And, needless to say, if there's anything we can do for any of you, please just let us know.
All the best,
Henry and Mary

Susan, I am so sorry to hear about Wilson. He was an even better person than he was a chemist and that is saying something; I worked with him at DuPont, and he was an accomplished and talented chemist.
Here is a photo I took at the Father-Daughter Dance in 2001. Again, our sincere condolences.

Dear Susan & Co,
this very much caught me by surprise and I'm very sorry for your loss. I learned a lot from Wilson, both as a scientist and human being. He was far too modest regarding his many talents. I'll miss him greatly, particularly the periodic e mails and phone calls. Best of luck in the future,
John Gladysz
