The Cornerstone Men's Retreat always concluded with Jim leading the singing of "I saw the Light!"
This song will always remind me of my good friend.

It was my pleasure and honor to know and work with Jim here at Hackensack University Medical Center in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He was a wonderful person to work with but more than that a good friend whom I spoke with too infrequently after he left here. He had such great compassion for the kids we took care of and that showed through in every encounter he had with them. It has been a couple of years since we last spoke and I will miss him. The world is a little worse off for his passing.

I was honored to serve for five years at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children as the director of the Pastoral Care Department and one of my greatest joys was my friendship with Jim Castello. We shared numerous times together having lunch, while talking about family and life. He was certainly an amazing gift to the patients and their family members, while making wonderful connections with them by his God given abilities to bless those around him. Jim will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his amazing love for his wife and daughters. I will miss you my friend but I cannot thank you enough for sharing yourself with all of us at Nemours.
Blessings on your Journey,
Dr. Al Carden

Jesus said, "And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also" (John 14:3). So, Jim, Jesus has come for you now and taken you there. You will meet those "Fishnetters" that have gone before you, and many others whose lives you blessed. I can "see" you now, picking up your guitar and breaking into song, "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine..." And so, the joy you brought us all continues and abounds all the more! Rest in peace,"Joab." How fitting is that name you received from the Spirit! It means, Praise Yahweh! You did that while you were among us, and now you continue praising among the saints above. Janet and I send our condolences to you, Frances, your daughters, and family. May Jesus grant you his peace surpassing understanding, and may you all be strengthened through his Spirit with faith and hope to meet the days ahead.
With our love,
Dan and Janet Kreller

Georgia and I first met Jim Castello and his wonderful wife Frances and their family in Racine, Wisconsin in 1978. Memories run deep with this remarkable man and solid Christian friend. We shared a deep spiritual bond, the art of music ministry, the love of family and the well being of children above all. Together upheld a strong embrace of our beloved St. Louis Cardinals through thick and thin, and I supported his Eagles for his sake unless they played the Greenbay Packers because my grandfather played for the Packers. The world is a better place because Jim Castello walked among us and touched the lives of everyone who came in contact with him. Assuredly Jim knew so well how “ To Reach Out, Touch Others and Make A Difference”. He was a beacon of light, a ray of hope and a tremendous blessing to us all. He was a good and faithful servant of the Lord and has earned his everlasting reward!

Frances and Family,
There's no word to say to ease the pain of your loss.
Jim was a faithful servant, and his reward in heaven will be great.
I can still see his smiling face. You and Jim were always at St. Mary's - lectors, eucharistic ministers. Our faithful community appreciate both of you.
We are forever grateful for the Ministry of the Cornerstone Men's Retreat that Jim introduced to our parish.
May the loving arms of God, the memories and the warm embraces and wishes comfort you and give you peace and strength.
Sending Love,
Romy and Zita Aquino

My friendship with Jim began when he was a parishioner at St. Paul Church in Ramsey and we were part of the first Cornerstone team. Jim and I shared many music-filled, laugh-filled, and faith-filled hours together. Jim’s sense of humour was apparent at many times. When my infant son was, well, being an infant at Mass one morning I tried to hand him off to Jim who just shook his head and said: “Sorry, I don’t know what to do with boys! I only do girl babies!”
My condolences to Frances and all of Jim’s family.

I am so sorry for your loss. Although I never met James, my father told us the story how at of Jamie and Bryan's wedding he was surrounded by what seemed to be his 5 precious muses, his daughters holding hands and dancing him around him. my father loved recounting that story and often told about the pure joy on his face and the beautiful pure happiness that he saw him experience that night I am sure James' light and love will shine forever through all the people he affected so deeply and those who will keep his memory alive.
