Obituary of Charles Jack Andrews

Charles Jack Andrews, formerly of Canton, most recently of Philadelphia, PA, passed away January 27, 2023. January 27 was also his 68th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Nancy Andrews, who survives. Also surviving are his children Kathy (Paul) Donovan, Thomas (Valerie) Andrews, and Karen (Michael) Meade, and grandchildren Sarah (Mike) Shane, Elizabeth Andrews, Jiamin Andrews, Lilly Andrews, Trygve Meade, and Mallory Meade. After growing up in Canton, Jack attended the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor's and Master's Degree, both with high honors, and where he is memorialized on the Bronze Tablets. He served with honor in the Korean War as an officer in the Air Force. After returning home, joined his parents in the family business Andrews Furniture, which he ran with great success for many years. He also co-founded and served on the Board of the Canton Community Bank and Trust and co-founded Scripps and McCartney. He found time to serve his community as Board Chair at the First Christian Church in Canton, as an instructor in Accounting at Spoon River College, and as a founding member of the Fulton County Playhouse and the Board of Canton Community College, now Spoon River College. He made lifelong friends in Canton (and later in Bradenton, Florida), who along with his family were his greatest treasure in life. After his career in Canton, Jack relocated to Washington, D.C., where he served as an Examiner for the National Credit Union Association until his retirement. Jack's greatest joy was to share his time and his home with the people he loved; a close second was cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs. He was an avid reader, an excellent cook, an enthusiastic stamp collector, and always in high demand as a bridge partner. Services will be 10 am, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the First Christian Church in Canton. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton is in charge of arrangements. Memorials can be made to the First Christian Church in Canton.
