Sorry for the belated condolences. Vlad was the contact for the Bronx community-based organization I worked with when he was at Sterling and then at Webster Bank. He made himself available to not only discuss the needs of Bronx residents and affordable multifamily housing, but he also was an engaged partner around our shared goals. He was down to earth and sincerely worked to bring the bank resources to the work to preserve and create decent affordable housing for low and moderate-income Bronx families and support our work. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to the Ortega family. I worked closely with Vlad for years at Sterling and was saddened to hear of his passing. We shared a respectful appreciation for each other. He was always positive, strong and was determined. He spoke lovingly about his family and always with a smile cheek to cheek. He will be missed by many and always remembered for his dapper suits and positive outlook. May he rest in peace. ❤️Gerry Harden

Vlad, my brother, it had been years since our paths last crossed…you left Wilmington and went North (to Pa.), I left and went South (to Bmore), but our Colonial memories lasted and it was all love when we saw each other — despite your poor taste in basketball teams (Celtics!! Grrrrr!), lol. Mannnn, did we use to go AT IT about Bird vs. Dr. J!!! He would have none of it!
To the Ortega family (in particular Natalie, another Colonial): unfortunately I won’t be able to make it up North to attend the services tomorrow, but please know that I am praying both for your comfort and that your brother will be remembered as the intelligent, passionate, hard-headed (smile) but loving man that he was.
Rest well, my friend…

Rest in peace, my friend Vlad. Though we only worked for a short time at Capital One, you always brought positive energy and smile to the workplace. You cared about your friends. Even though you moved to another job, you always took time to check in with me every once a while. You will be missed dearly.

I just wanted to say how incredibly lucky we all were to know Vlad. He spent so much time with my Emily. He was so kind and always gave her great advice about life, work and just being a good person. He will be missed very much.

I have been struggling for a few days to try and piece my words together. This is heartbreaking on so many levels and I apologize for the length of this. I am so terribly sorry Amanda for you and the family. Amanda, I know we didn't all get a chance in recent years to hang out, but always loved my time with your husband. It will be 24 years later this year that I was playing basketball at the Central YMCA at 6am and met Vlad. We immediately hit if off and figured out I worked at FUSA with his mom. I went back to tell AJ and Jim I found another Sales Manager (coach) and we need to hire him. Truthfully, we were building a competitive culture and I loved how competitive we both were on the court. AJ also worked with his mom and went to high school so he was all for it. There are too many memories to list here but going to the Yankee game with him and how supportive he was with the charity events I ran will always be close to my heart. He would show up and do all he could to help. When we launched ING DIRECT it was absolute madness (thanks Marketing). I remember Vlad answering calls with me and others underneath our chairs because of the construction above us was so loud. And us being so busy he would answer customer calls "ING" vs ING DIRECT how can I help you save your money. I'd laugh hearing him. I'm like dude what are you doing?? We won our first and only Softball championship together with a lot of great folks as the Orange Yanks in the 2003 or 2004 season. Him and I holding down one side of the field at third base and shortstop and he was an amazing #3 hitter. Overall, he was a great athlete and on the field we both shared a strong competitive drive to win. We'd often talk about the Godfather and mafia movies at work and our Yankees. We both could talk in depth about both. We also talked about personal challenges we had and I treasured all those talks together. I have my own guilt about losing touch with him and mostly everyone because of my boys, but him and his family were always close to my heart. And my heart breaks for all his family and children. My love goes out to all the family and friends that shared Vlad's light and warmth.

To the Ortega family my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time. I pray that you get to recall the great memories you had with Vlad and allow those to live on. My time with Vlad was short but he was a great man and also modeled how I would want to raise or take care of my family. His passion and care for those around him is something that will always stick with me. Including just checking in with me the past couple of years to see how I was doing with my newborn son. Rest in Peace Vlad.

My deepest condolences to the entire Ortega family. Vlad was a shining light to all of us at Sterling National Bank. He would light up the room with his brilliant smile and most dapper attire. But Vlad’s real power was the energy he gave to our work helping others less fortunate in the community. He was tireless in his commitment to give bank and always showed up when there was a need.
We will miss you dear friend. Peace.
