Obituary of Marion K. Hampton
Marion K. Hampton, age 90, met her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2024, peacefully at home.
Though she never had children of her own, Marion was the true matriarch of her large extended family. Known affectionately as "Aunt" Marion to nearly all who knew and loved her, she was especially generous and giving of her time and attention to her brothers and sisters and their families. She attended every family event, graduation, or performance she could, no matter how near or far, camera in tow. Indeed, no family gathering was complete without Aunt Marion—the family historian—or her camera.
Born in Philadelphia, and raised primarily in Chester, PA, Marion graduated from Chester High School. She lived or many years in Chester and Brookhaven before moving to Upper Chichester 30 years ago. Marion was independent and strong-willed, hardworking and resilient, and humble. She was a mainstay for decades in the administrative offices at Weinberg's in Chester and Manoa. After a few years at the Philadelphia Airport SmartPark, she worked at the Chester Rural Cemetery, from which she retired just a few years ago. A history buff, Marion was an active member of the Delaware County Historical Society for many years. She was a long-time and faithful member of Trainer Wesleyan Church and Chichester United Wesleyan Church.
Walking brought Aunt Marion a sense of great joy and freedom, and kept her young. She would walk for miles, no matter the weather or time of day, to be sure never to miss work or an important family or church event. She enjoyed travel, high school and local theater performances, church dinners, eating out with family, and—perhaps above all—family reunions.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Mae (Short) and George Hampton and Harold A. Feil, Sr.; brother Harold A. Hampton; sisters Eleanor Bissinger and Barbara Reeser; in-laws Mary Hampton, John Bissinger, Charles Williamson, Ray Reeser, and Linda Hampton; and niece Linda Conti.
She will be loved and missed every day by her sister, Edna Williamson of Blairsville, PA; brother, James Hampton, of Smyrna, DE; her nephew, Ed Raikowski, of Upper Chichester, PA, and his family, Sandy, Tiffany, and Janice, who cared for her and with whom she resided for many years; her niece and caregiver, Debra Kendra of Upper Chichester, PA, and her family, Bob, Sheena, who was her caregiver during her final days, and Tyler; her many nieces and nephews, Penny Mullin, Cathie Fasciglione, Judy Schupp, Lisa Hampton Swain, Shannon Hampton Sutherland, Andy Bissinger, Sarah Mitchell, Lois Moranville, John Williamson, Beth Eggers, Judith Reisinger, Joseph and Tom Raikowski, Pegi Ellsworth, Linda Wadolny, and Jennifer Jarman, and their families; as well as her church family.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday July 24th, from 4p to 7p at ChiUnited Church, 5151 Chichester Ave, Upper Chichester, PA . Burial will be Private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marion's memory to the American Red Cross, the Chichester United Wesleyan Church Food Bank, the Salvation Army Chester Corps, the Lupus Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
