Obituary of Anthony Louis Spadaccini

Anthony Louis Spadaccini, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Anthony ("Tony") was born on August 29, 1935 in Philadelphia to Louis and Angelina Spadaccini. He attended South Philadelphia High School for Boys, then received a degree in Commerce and Engineering from Drexel University. He was employed by Johnson Service Company, Sinclair Refining Company and ultimately worked for General Motors Corporation at the Wilmington Plant for 36 years. He married the love of his life, Barbara Russell, in November 1958 and together they raised five children. Tony placed a very high value on family life and he always encouraged his children In their faith, studies and sports lives. As a young man, Tony played guitar in a local band. They played at serenades, weddings and block parties throughout South Philadelphia. He even participated in a string band in the Mummers New Year's Day parade. He loved opera, particularly La Boheme, and Rigoletto, as well as anything Frank Sinatra. The happiest time of his life, besides being with his family, was coaching football. He coached youth football from 1959 to 1982. He was an assistant coach at Salesianum High School from 1983 to 2022 He did his best to impart his cherished values of hard work, teamwork and fair play to the young men he coached. Tony was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and rooted for the Phillies and the Eagles until the end. He enjoyed summer vacations in Sea Isle City, NJ with his family. Tony enjoyed solving Sudoku in his spare time. Tony was a dedicated husband and father, and an excellent role model for his children. His family loved him and will miss him greatly. He was one of a kind. Tony is preceded in death by his son, Louis A. Spadaccini and his sister, Mary Carbonetti. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara A. Spadaccini, 4 children; Angela S. (Brian) Eyre, Gerard (Stephanie) Spadaccini, Julia S. (Kirk) Clemens and Anthony Joseph Spadaccini, a daughter-in-law, Melissa Wallo (and her husband John), 10 grandchildren; Anthony Edward Spadaccini, Rebecca (Shawn) Case, James (Bekah) Eyre, Daniel (Caroline) Eyre, Emily (Robert) Kieu, Angelina (Mark) Hannagan, Erin Spadaccini (fiancé Matt Baffuto), Emma Spadaccini, Natalie Spadaccini and Trevor Clemens, and 4 great grandchildren; Dominick, Josephine, Beatrix & Atlas. A viewing will be held on May 6th, Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA. An additional viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 7th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church from 10:00-10:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Live stream link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOm40siGlxw.
