Obituary of Edward C. Crist

Edward C. Crist, age 92, of Garnet Valley, PA, passed away peacefully at home on July 28, 2024 with his wife by his side.

Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mary Curl Crist, and their three children: Edward F. (Nadia) Crist, Michael (Paula) Crist and Donna Marie (Joseph) Dovell. Ed was a proud grandfather to Alicia, Nicole, Brooke, Michael, Joseph, Andrew and Victoria and loving great-grandfather to Taylor, Robert and Norah.

Born and raised in Darby, PA, Ed lived in Garnet Valley for the past 17 years, previously residing in Aldan, PA. Ed graduated from West Catholic High School, Class of 1950. Later, he earned an Associate Degree in Biology. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corp staff sergeant serving two tours of duty in Korea during the Korean War. Ed was proud of his work as a microbiologist for almost 35 years at the Philadelphia Suburban Water Co.

Devoted to his Catholic faith, Ed was a member of the Church of the Holy Child in Wilmington.

Ed enjoyed many sports and activities. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer. He played a mean game of pinochle, poker and pool. Ed and his wife Mary started every day with a cup of coffee in hand working together on the puzzles in the Inquirer. Ed was always ready with a silly joke or story and loved to travel with Mary and friends. Also, Mary and Ed enjoyed cutting the rug on the dance floor.  Ed especially enjoyed summers spent at their beach home in Ocean City NJ with family and friends.  During his younger years, Ed was active in the Darby Fire Company No. 2. He was an Ace fast-pitch softball pitcher, bowler and shuffleboard player.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 10 to 11 AM at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment will take place at St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery, Glen Mills, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
