Obituary of Richard R. Lanahan
Richard "Rich" R. Lanahan, age 92, of Aston, PA, passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2024. Born and raised in Chester, PA, Rich resided in Aston for the past 48 years, having previously lived in Drexel Hill, PA.
Rich dedicated 40 years to Boeing, starting as an office manager and later transitioning to production control before retiring in the early 1990s. After retirement, he continued to serve the community as a school bus aide for the Penn-Delco School District working with his wife Jocelyn, the bus driver, where he lovingly and patiently cared for the disabled children they transported to school and home. A proud Army veteran, Rich served during the Korean Conflict and earned his Associate's degree from Pennsylvania Military College (PMC).
Devoted to his faith, Rich was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he volunteered as a greeter; participated in the Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council; and attended the Malvern Retreat House annually. He was also a member of the St. James Choir, the American Legion of Aston, and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. In his earlier years, Rich enjoyed playing football and singing semi-professionally. He always loved spending time with his family and friends and making new friends along his journey. Rich was an amazing listener to all, exhibited an immense sense of humility and patience, and was quite the comedian as he enjoyed making everyone laugh or putting a smile on someone's face which made it easy for all to love him. The holidays and birthdays were a special time for him as it brought everyone together. He also enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies, traveling, dancing, and singing.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mae Lilly Lanahan, his daughter Brenda Sheaffer (2007), and his siblings, Joseph Lanahan, Arthur Lanahan, and Mary Fusco.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Jocelyn M. (nee Joyce) Lanahan, two daughters, Karen Lanahan and Lisa (Luke) Ammann, and his three grandchildren, Rebecca Sheaffer, Joshua Ammann, and Veronica Ammann.
