Obituary of Lawrence A. Barker

Lawrence A. Barker, age 68 of Garnet Valley, PA passed away suddenly on September 28th at home. Raised in Ridley Park, Larry graduated from St. James Catholic High School, class of 1974. A resident of Garnet Valley for 26 years, Larry previously resided in Wallingford, PA. Larry received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science from Widener University after he transferred from St. Bernard College in Cullman, Alabama. Larry was a talented pitcher for St. James and on other local teams, and continued his baseball career at St. Bernard. In addition, he coached his son's baseball teams at BYC and the American Legion. Larry retired from the Coatesville VA Hospital after 28 years where he was an HR Specialist. In addition to his parents, Lawrence F. And Mary Garvey Barker, Larry is preceded in death by his wife Theresa who died in 2016 and his nephew Jeffrey Ferkler who died in 1997. Larry is survived by 2 children, Christopher Barker and Maura Barker, and 9 siblings, Mary Ellen (Joseph) Ferkler, Sean (Billi-Jo) Barker, James Barker, Patricia Barker, Kathleen Barker, Edward Barker, Regina Barker, Joseph Barker and Patrick Barker (Marie, deceased 2017), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass on Monday, October 7th, at 10:30am at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4225 Chichester Ave., Boothwyn, PA where friends may call from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment will remain private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry's memory may be made to the Coatesville VA Hospital (https://www.cdceportal.va.gov/donate_online/).
