Obituary of Lawrence A. Dunbar

Lawrence A. Dunbar of Chadds Ford, PA passed away on October 1, 2024 at the age of 87. Born in Wilmington, DE, Larry was the son of Harry and Ruth Dunbar.

Larry shared 46 years of marriage and two children with his first wife, Pat, before her passing in 2010.

Larry has often said that he was lucky enough to find love twice in his lifetime. He is survived by his second wife, Margaret "Peggy" Dunbar; they celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary on September 27, 2024.

Also surviving Larry are his son, Bradford Dunbar, and daughter-in-law, Terri, along with their sons, Nathan and Gavin, of West Chester; and his daughter, Whitney Dunbar Minner, and son-in-law, Roger, of Kennett Square. Additionally, he is survived by Peggy's family, including five children, their spouses, and ten grandchildren. Larry also leaves behind many beloved family members and close friends.

Larry was a graduate of P.S. duPont High School and was enlisted in the US Naval Reserves. His career at Strawbridge & Clothier of Philadelphia spanned 42 years. He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Glen Mills for over 50 years.

Throughout his life, Larry enjoyed skiing, boating, travelling, and tennis. He also had a deep appreciation for antiques and spent countless hours restoring and maintaining the family's historic 1742 home. As an animal lover, he was actively involved with Canine Partners for Life for several years.

In his later years, he enjoyed living part-time in Cape May and could often be found reading by the beach at Cape May Point. Larry loved to entertain and was a wonderful host to friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Canine Partners for Life (www.k94life.org) or St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund (www.saintjohnsconcord.com).

Family and friends may call from 9:30-10:45 AM on Saturday, October 12, at St. John's Episcopal Church at 576 Concord Rd., Glen Mills, PA. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM.
