Obituary of Joel Ellis Chesney
Joel Ellis Chesney, 88, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away on October 11, 2024, at Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Philip and Mildred (née Klein) Chesney, Joel spent the last decade of his life in Rehoboth Beach, DE having previously lived in West Chester and Garnet Valley, PA, and Cinnaminson, NJ.
A lifelong entrepreneur, Joel's career began with the ownership of a butcher shop. He later went on to own and operate The Blind Pig in Riverside, NJ for 23 years. Joel was also a dedicated member of the Rotary Club for 46 years, serving as District Governor from 2008-2009. His commitment to service and community was central to his life.
Joel was passionate about cooking, enjoyed watching football, and cherished the time spent with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Joel was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Vandegrift Chesney. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Joyce (née Chetty) Chesney; his sons, Kevin Chesney and Brian Hutton (Laura); and his grandchildren: Dylan, Skye, Colleen, Caroline, Ashlee, Joshua, Brian Jr., Rachel, Andrew, and Dominic.
A celebration of Joel's life will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA 19060. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m.
