Obituary of Nicholas C. Danese

Nick Danese passed away comfortably and peacefully on October 26, 2024. He was in the company of God and surrounded by his family. He was 93 years old.

Nick was born and raised in South Philadelphia. He remembered that when he was ten years old, he was in the corner store eating a TastyKake when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He attended Southern High School where he played bass in a jazz band. The band also performed locally and at weddings.

In 1952 he married the love of his life, Dolores, or Dee as he called her, and in September they celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.

They both loved the beach. For many years, they had a home in Wildwood Crest, NJ, and spent their winters in Florida, mostly in Jupiter. He enjoyed taking his family on summer vacations to the Jersey Shore, where many life-long memories were created.

Nick had a long career in sales with the Prudential Mutual Insurance Company. While there he received every possible award that they could bestow upon him. More importantly, while there, he made a large circle of life-long friends. Nick and Dee were very social, and often gathered with their "crowd," as dad called them.

He loved to play golf and was very proud and excited the time that he got a hole-in-one!

Although he worked long hours and had appointments almost every night after dinner, it was not unusual to see him on the sidelines watching football practice, little league games, or the dance recitals of his children.

They began their family in Colwyn, PA, and as the family grew, they moved to Upper Darby, then to Drexel Hill, and finally to a 55-and-over community in Glen Mills, PA.

Nick was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, godfather, and great-grandfather, as well as a good friend to many. He was a long-suffering Phillies and Eagles fan. It was always fun to discuss the games, win or lose, with Nick. We will all miss his sharp and quick wit!

Nick is survived by his loving wife Dolores, and his sister Dorothy. He was pre-deceased by his sister Lillian. He is also survived by son Michael Danese and his wife Ann, son Daniel Danese and his wife Suzanne, daughter Patricia Famigletti (husband Michael – deceased) and Al Martino, son John Danese and his wife Rose, and daughter Barbara Danese. Nick has 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 31 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 430 Valleybrook Rd, Glen Mills, PA from 10:15 - 11:45AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00PM. Interment, St. Thomas the Apostle Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research (stjude.org).

It has been said that a man's wealth can be measured by the love surrounding him, if this is true, then Nick is the richest man on Earth. His legacy is his incredible large, loud, laughing family and whenever his family gathers, it will be a tribute to Nicholas Danese.
