Obituary of Anthony V. Scancella

Anthony "Tony" V. Scancella, 89, of Glen Mills, PA, passed away peacefully after a brief illness December 31, 2024, at Riddle Memorial Hospital. Born in Bristol, PA, to James and Sadie (Cutchineal) Scancella, Tony resided at Maris Grove in Glen Mills for the past eight years, previously living in Millsboro, DE, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Tennessee, Connecticut, California, Iowa, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Tony held bachelor and master's degrees in chemical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He had a distinguished career at DuPont, rising through the ranks to become a plant manager at operations in California, Iowa and New Jersey. Along the way, Tony and his late wife, Loretta, raised six children. Tony was enormously proud of his children and made family a central aspect of his life. He cherished spending time with family, particularly his grandchildren and great grandchildren, with whom he had many "Tony Talks" to impart life wisdom. A man of many talents, Tony enjoyed woodworking and often declared "I can make that". He found joy in reading detective stories, playing cards, especially bridge, solving crossword puzzles and playing the stock market. Tony was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Loretta Scancella, who passed away in 2020, and his daughter, Karen Jackson, who died in 2017. He is survived by his loving children: Susan Morgan, Diane (Matthew) Spicer, Debra (James) Liney, James Scancella, and Lisa (Thomas) Shea. He is also survived by a sister, Jean (Irv) Bender and Vincent (Beverly Scancella), along with nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many friends and DuPont colleagues.
