Twenty-four years ago Barb Novotni welcomed me into her classroom as a new paraprofessional and resident of the Garnet Valley community. Barbara became my mentor, coworker and friend, generously sharing her knowledge and experience as together we forged the new frontier of Special Education. I immediately saw a kind, strong, forgiving, fun-loving woman whose dedication to teaching and children positively affected my own career choice over the next twenty-one years. Barbara's beautiful smile and hearty laugh were a trademark, and we so enjoyed the humor in everyday moments. I was happy to see Barbara after her retirement and to hear her enthusiasm for vacationing from October through March. She will now continue her travels in the company of angels!
Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss; be patient with yourselves as you grieve and heal. I feel blessed to have crossed Barb's path and will cherish so many memories of such a special person.

To the Family of Mrs. Barbara W. Novotni,
I am so grateful to have been given the gift of knowing Mrs. Novotni, and even more enriched by her generosity in sharing her three children, Sandra, Scott, and Susanne with us. Our entire community, school district, church, and the many who have shared a moment or perhaps a lifetime are better because of her connection.
If there is one powerful example Barbara gave, it was the importance of family, and she made her family the center of her world. Barbara invited us to be ourselves and made all of us her family, especially at GV. As a long standing talented GV educator, a community supporter, and a shining star as a classy human being, we could all stand to take a chapter out of Barbara's life and ways. The words that people around the community have used to describe this extraordinary person are kind, selfless, giving, genuine, sweet, strong, courageous, loving, and caring to all those around her.
The person I was blessed to know growing up in the GV community, who befriended mine and many parents on the ball fields of BYC, to her passion for championing the highest standards in teaching, to the friendly conversations Barbara would have with anyone, without conditions, and we all felt the comfort in her presence, the warmth of her family spirit, and the gifts of inviting us into her world that crossed the path of many journeys she had, which made an impact to countless people. Barbara's strength she demonstrated over these past few years, all that she learned, taught, overcame, and provided through the eyes of her fight while putting her family first is something I and many of us admire, and will stay with all of us in our journey's forward as we raise our children.
I am proud to have known Mrs. Barbara Novotni, and say to her family, She gets a WELL DONE from me as she is someone we can all stand to be more like. In speaking with many Alumni of GV over the past few days about Barbara's passing, it goes without saying that this GV Alumni Family offers sincere condolences and celebrates the fabulous life of Barbara Novotni. God Bless!
Sincere Regards,
Dan Foltz

Sandy, Scott, Susanne and your families, I am so sorry for your loss. It is always difficult to lose a loved one, but remember all of you must carry on. I am sure you all have fond memories about your Mom from your different growing up stages, and you should certainly be able to share them as a family. I thought back to our days at Garnet Valley as your teacher and colleague of your mother, and I came up with nothing but pleasant thoughts and memories. I worked with Mom at Francis Harvey Green for half a year, and I truly saw what kind of teacher and person she was. She was always kind and very professional. She was also a great deal of fun to be around.
My deepest condolences; I will remember her in my prayers.

I had the pleasure of working with Barb at Concord Elementary School. When I was a new teacher, she really took me under her wing and mentored me, never too busy to answer a question. I enjoyed her sense of humor and love for her students.

I am so sorry for your loss. Your mother was a wonderful lady. If it were not for her being my teacher in second grade I am not sure school would have turned out as well as it did. Yes I had some other great teachers but, your mom is the one who first saw my struggles and got me the help I needed. I will forever be grateful for her and her help. I also know my perents feel the same way. Any student who had your mom as a teacher in my mind won the teacher lottery. Thank you for sharing her with us all. May she rest in peace.

Scott/Amanda,
We were so saddened to hear of your mom's passing. We were fortunate enough to have known her, even if just for a few years. She was a great woman, and a fierce Pinochle player!! Our condolences to you both and your families.

Anyone can leave footprints in the sand; but it takes someone really special to leave footprints in the lives they've touched. I'm remembering Barbara and am thankful for the significant impact and "footprints" she made in so many lives! Loved working with her for so many years!

I am so sorry to hear of your family's loss. Mrs. Teaf as I remember her was my 3rd grade teacher at Francis Harvey Green. I believe I had her the first year she started teaching and still remember sitting in her classroom 50 years later. As the years went by I would still see her at district functions with my children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful woman and mentor. Prayers to your family. Beth
