Dr. Arts was not only our family physician for many years, but when own father died of a massive MI in 1972, Dr. Arts being the caring man he was, ordered my grieving mother to come work for him. We delighted in the many stories my mother, Mary Hendershot, told us every night! From there she gained her confidence and if it were not for his kindness, generosity and outright flamboyant sense of humor, she might never have recovered. Mary also died last May 2, 2018. Thank you Dr. Arts for all!!

Paul Arts was one of the most astute and devoted physicians I worked with in 22 years at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center. The breadth of his knowledge both within and outside medicine impresses me to this day. Any consultation I ever got from Paul was always preceded by careful thought and accompanied by real-time discussion during which he made sure I had every detail about his patients so that the suggestions I gave would be as appropriate and effective as possible.
In lectures that I give to medical students I use several of his patients, illustrating not only applications of basic science at the bedside but also the type of care that is rendered by the best primary care physicians. Paul Arts embodied the principle, stated in 1926, that "the secret of the care OF the patient is in caring FOR the patient." Literally thousands of students are better doctors because of the examples set by Paul Arts.
I sincerely hope that his children and grandchildren are comforted by the legacy of this great person.

Just wanted to let you know we had alot of respect for Dr. Arts, he was our family Doctor for many years and we were very sad when he retired. We had 4 children at the time and he was a great Doctor and confidant. He never pushed you out of his office and spent lots of time with you. We also met your mother a few times as his nurse who was also very nice. He saved my husbands live once by doing a simple blood test because he just wasn't feeling well and it turned out he had prostrate cancer, which because of your father they found it quick and he is still here with us at 73 today. My daughter started to take her kid to him but her insurance changed and she had to go else where. We talked to him about his skiing trips with his family and new a little about all of you. We just wanted to say we are very sorry for the loss of your father and of your mother a year ago.

What fun Paul was while working on the Christmas Light team at Longwood. I so appreciated his "straight to the point" remarks about the more inane facets of life and his reverence for "the Queen". Thanks, Paul
