Obituary of William L. Carney
William L. "Bill" Carney, age 85, passed away on March 24, 2017. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of James A Carney Sr. & Julia Francia (nee Foley) Carney. Bill was a graduate of St. Cyril of Alexandria School and a resident of East Lansdowne for over 70 years. Bill graduated from West Catholic High, class of 1950. He then served as an Army Sergeant during the Korean War. He was employed in the printing trade for most of his working career. Bill served as a school crossing guard in East Lansdowne for many years. He was a member of St. John Fisher Catholic Church. Bill was an avid fan of the Philadelphia sports teams, but his heart loved The Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame and he was a proud member of the "Subway Alumni". In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen (Kelly) Carney, a brother James A. Carney Jr., a sister, Julia McLaughlin, a nephew, James A. Carney III, a niece, Suzanne Woolson and a grandniece, Emily Rose Sittineri Bill is survived by his sister-in-law, Mildred (nee Banys) Carney, brother-in-law, Thomas Kelly, and several nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, a great-grandniece and a great-grandnephew. A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017, 9:00 -10:00AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd. Garnet Valley, PA followed by funeral services at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to Forgotten Cat, Margie and Ellie Senior Cats, Suite 422, 4023 Kennett Pike, Greenville, DE, 19807, who provided his faithful cat companion Toby.
