Obituary of John Q Griffith

John Q. Griffith III, age 82 of Glen Mills, PA passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born to the late John Q. Jr. and Constance Jankauskas Griffith, he was raised in Margate, NJ. John has resided at Maris Grove since 2006 and previously in Chadds Ford, PA and Claymont, DE. A Research & Development Manager, he retired from Sun Oil in Marcus Hook after 35 years in 1989. John held many patents, however when he was not working, he was active with his church, Elam U.M.C. where he once served on the finance committee. He also volunteered on the Board of Directors for the regional American Heart Association. In his early years, John served on the Margate City Beach Patrol and held a ocean swimming record for many decades. He later joined the Air Force and was proud to serve his country. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Griffith (nee) Moylan who passed in 2015 and a sister, Constance Bonwit. He is survived by 3 children; Kay Gamble, John Q. Griffith, IV (Nancy) & Karen Griffith Gryga (Lou), 5 grandchildren, Alison & Christine Gamble, Luke Waaben & Morgan & Griffin Gryga, and a brother Martin Griffith. A visitation will be held on Tuesday evening, 6-8PM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA and again on Wednesday, 9:00-9:45AM at Elam U.M. Church, 1073 Smithbridge Rd., Glen Mills, PA followed by funeral services at 10:00AM. Interment Birmingham-Layfayette Cemetery, West Chester, PA.
