Obituary of Sophie S. Smith

Sophie S. Smith, age 97, of Boothwyn, PA passed away peacefully on July 2, 2018 at home. Born, raised and a lifelong resident of Upper Chichester, Sophie was raised by her late parents, Gabriel and Catherine Peciuch Szurgyjlo. A homemaker, she was devoted to her home and family. Sophie enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, gardening, baking and fishing. She had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying nature and camping. One of her greatest joys was was spending time with her family and holding the babies. Sophie is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Smith who died July 2, 1972, a daughter, Eleanor McKim and siblings, Thomas, Daniel, Louie, Peter and Joseph Szurgyjlo and Bessie Fecondo. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Gwen (Ed) Poole and Harriet (Victor) Vaskelis, a sister, Lenie Bienkowski, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, her nieces who cared for her, Linda White and Kathy Hamp and numerous other nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, 10-11AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd., Garnet Valley, PA followed by a funeral liturgy at 11:00AM. Interment, Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills, PA.
