I can't begin to say how much I miss you and Grandma. I know things weren't always the best at our house but you always tried to keep some sense of order, if only to keep the great-grandchildren safe, or simply to enjoy your good ol' Fox News. I thought that I would cry when Grandma first died, but I couldn't bring myself to until a few days later. For you, on the other hand, it took some time. Whoever told me that you were gone doesn't matter, but I cant shake the memory of the emptiness I felt while sitting on the front porch, contemplating the fact that you were gone. You meant so much to all of us, especially your youngest. Mommom saw you for the hard-headed, tough-loving, honest man that you were. We all did to some extent. Months after your passing I sat on my back porch and the song "Rocky Raccoon" came on, and that was it. The southern vibe, and the title reminded me of those old carvings I used to watch to make when I was very young. Whenever I hear the song I can't help but remember the great times you and I shared together, and the pressing times we shared as a family. As a unit. Wherever you may be, I hope you can see this somehow. You'll always have a special place in my heart for being my father figure when I had none, and an outstanding great-grandfather as long as you lived. I love you, Grandpa.
