Obituary of George L. Bennett

George L. Bennett, age 77, of Garnet Valley, PA passed away on November 2, 2018. Born in Philadelphia and graduated from West Catholic Boys High School, he worked as a shift supervisor for Gulf Oil, Chevron and Sunoco. He retired in 2000 after 33 years of service. George was the past president of the Upper Chichester Recreation Board, past president of the Delaware County Aquarium Society and Secretary of the Chichester Baseball League for many years. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in 1966. George was a member of the Ogden American Legion, Post 951. In addition to his parents, George and June Sawyer Bennett, he is preceded in death by his siblings, John and Paul Bennett, June Spitz, Pat Gallagher and Theresa Bennett. George is survived by his wife of 43 years, Charlene Snare Bennett, 5 children, Stephen (Cathy) Bennett, Charlene (Jeff) Sanders, Paul Bennett, Gregory Bennett and Theresa (Kirby) Steger, and 8 grandchildren, Heather, Kyle, Stephen, Jessica, Emma, Anna, Kayla and Brayden. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, 11:00AM at the Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Rd., Wilmington, DE. Interment will remain private. In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org).
