Obituary of John B. Millard
John B. Millard, of Glen Mills, passed away on September 12, 2020 at the age of 78. John was born to J. Brooks and Lily Millard in 1941. He graduated from St. Thomas More H.S. and St. Joseph's University. During this time some of his famous stories were born, including his all-star track days, his duck (Peewee), working with ponies/elephants/gorillas at the Philadelphia Zoo, and his summer job as a milkman in Avalon, NJ. In 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Casacci, and together they raised two children. In his professional life, John built extensive human resource expertise through his work and leadership at Sun Oil, Amchem, Union Carbide, and Henkel Corp. A crowning professional achievement was his founding of Millard Consulting Services (MCS), a management consulting and outplacement firm designed to help executives find their paths. He was an outstanding father and grandfather, and was never short on love, Donald Duck impressions, peanut M&Ms, and a devilish smile.
After Barbara's passing in 2009, he married his longtime friend, Dolores McNamara, and together they showed that hearts can expand to love more than one wonderful person. John was known for his sense of humor, gregarious demeanor, fondness for animals (especially shelter dogs), and serious appreciation for chocolate chip cookies and milkshakes. John enjoyed golfing, travelling, opera, and classical music. Like his parents and sister, he especially loved gathering with friends and family at the beach, where he could be found wearing his famous baseball caps and making breakfast in the morning.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores, his son, Jack (Nancy), his daughter, Jennifer (Tom), and his cherished grandchildren Elizabeth, Brian, Elise, and Caroline; along with his extended family, Colleen McNamara, Karen Patton (Rich, Alex, Austin, Ella), and Sharon Smith (Jeff, Libby, Bobby, Bridget, Corinne).
John is predeceased by his wife (Barbara), parents, sister (Mary Retacco), nephew (Paul Retacco), and several beloved pets.
His family wishes to thank the staff of Rose Court at Maris Grove for their kindness and care for John.
A Funeral Mass celebrating John's life will be held at 11:00 AM on September 21, 2020 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Glen Mills. Socially distanced visitation will precede the service from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Providence Animal Center, 555 Sandy Bank Rd, Media, PA 19063 (www.providenceac.org).
