Obituary of Beryl K. Shive

Beryl K. Shive, age 73, of Glen Mills, PA passed away on September 18, 2020 at home, surrounded by her family. Born in Philadelphia and raised in West Philadelphia and Glenolden, Beryl resided for the past 2 years at the Maris Grove Community in Glen Mills, PA. She previously resided in Aston for 45 years. Beryl graduated in 1965 from Notre Dame High School in Moylan, PA. After high school, Beryl was employed by TV Guide for 37 years and retired as Director of Scheduling in 2002. After retirement Beryl was an office manager at AEX Group in Aston for 8 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic and a Bereavement minister. While living at Maris Grove, Beryl was the editor of the monthly Neighbor News, and was an avid card and game player.  She was also a booklover, collecting over 10,000 books in her lifetime.  She enjoyed being a member of the Brandywine Valley Civil War Round Table with her husband Tom.  In addition to her parents, Robert F. and Gloria F. (Cox) Woods, Beryl is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Charles Shive who passed in 2019 and a brother, Gregory Woods.  She is survived by her daughter, Kimberli Barr and her husband Kevin; 4 siblings, Susan (Tom) Ryan, Bob (Mary Gene) Woods, Gloria Woods Dragonette and David (Pam) Woods and several brothers and sisters-in-law, an Aunt and many cousins. She cherished her numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who loved her dearly.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22 from 9:30-10:30AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3255 Concord Road, Aston, PA immediately followed by a Funeral Mass. Beryl and Tom’s ashes will be buried together immediately following at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Aston, PA. Donations in her memory may be made to Maris Grove Resident Care Fund, Office of Philanthropy, 200 Maris Grove Way, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
