Obituary of James J. Christy
James J. Christy, age 83 of Garnet Valley, PA passed away peacefully on March 5, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at home. Born in Philadelphia, Jim has resided for the past 23 years in Garnet Valley, PA, previously residing in Chester, PA. Jim, known as a St. James Bulldog graduated class of 1955. He played football for the St. James Bulldogs where he and brother Dick, known for their playing of the backfield won not only the Catholic League Championship, but also the City of Philadelphia Championship in 1954. Jim went on to play college football for Furman University in S.C. where he also played Runningback. After college, Jim signed and played baseball for the Los Angeles Dodgers and later played again football for one season with the New York Jets. Jim then went on to have a career with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier for over 35 years. Upon his retirement, he took on the game of golf where he had a love affair with the game attaining 8 hole-in-one's. He also was proud of his low handicap of a 1.
In addition to his parents, Vincent and Evelyn Newbury Christy, James is preceded in death by his son, James M. Christy who passed in 2008, 2 siblings, Sheila Christy and Dick Christy and grandson in law, Frank John Laganosky III who passed on February 1, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Judith A. Ebner Christy, 3 children, David (Alisha) Christy, Cindy (Deb) Christy and Bobby (Linda) Christy, daughter in law, Donna Christy, 2 brothers, Vincent and Jerry Christy, 10 grandchildren, James, David & Deanna Christy, Katie Lynn Christy Laganosky, Stephen (Dana) Christy, Sarah Christy, Scott Martin, Alisha (Pat) Massey, Krista (Matt) McDonald and Thomas (Maria) Zetusky and 4 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Saturday, 8:30-10:30AM at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd. Garnet Valley, PA followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30AM. Interment Mt. Hope Cemetery, Aston, PA.
